Kurdish Language and Literature in the 21st Century
Although every language displays a different evolution from their nation’s history, they maintain their existence depending on the speakers of the language. Today Kurdish language is spoken in a variety of countries all differing from each other and its usage and development display distinctions in accordance with these countries. The changes and differences among these countries where Kurdish still keeps its brightness, without any doubt, originate from many reasons, the most important of which are the political and social foundations of these countries.
Unquestionably, in every region it is spoken, it can be observed that Kurdish language has created a special history for itself and remarkably preserved vividness of its dialects and regional accents. This situation offers quite a prosperous area for language and literature researchers.
Despite this special history, Kurdish, spoken by approximately millions of people, has been able to create a literature and lay the strong literary foundations for Melayé Cizîrî, Ahmedê Xanî, Nalî, Mahmud Baksi, Mehmed Uzun, Goran, Hejar Mukriyanî. Still, today a rich value is being created on these foundations.
In a time when Kurdish language began gaining value in the Middle East and Turkey, with the help of conferences and seminars, the studies and arguments in the area of Kurdology started increasing and Kurdish, with its literature, has come out of homes and started being used freely in governmental and academic environments. However, as it is well known, in Russia, Europe and some countries of the Middle East, Kurdish language and literature has already been the subject of valuable researches and also it is on the agenda that these studies will be carried on in Turkey via universities.
But, how were these foundations laid? And what values are being established on these foundations?
What’s the condition of Kurdish language and literature today?
What properties does Kurdish literature have according to researchers?
Considering these questions and problems, Hakkari University is organizing a conference that will take place on July 16th, 17th and 18th 2010. And for this purpose, it is gathering researchers, academicians and writers in Hakkari. We tried to do our best to include guests from all countries where Kurdish is spoken and from all areas of Kurdish Language and Literature researches.
Our conference will be held under the name of “Kurdish Language and Literature in the 21st Century” and the presentation language will only be in Kurdish.
Hakkari is home to emirs, story tellers and a priceless language and culture prosperity. During the course of the conference we are expecting all students, researchers, writers, people who are interested in language and literature and Kurdish passionates to Hakkari.
